Air Force test bombs

Are they real?  That's a good question, because dummy or practice bombs are generally painted blue. These are orange and they do explode - sort of...

The good old 5 pound bomb is a mainstay of military aviation. This is what they use to practice dropping those. It's called the Mk-106 and it falls exactly the way a fully loaded 5 pound bomb would fall. These are loaded with a 12 gauge smoke cartridge instead of high explosive. The flat nose pushes a firing pin back when it lands and fires the cartridge. That gives the pilots a visual of how close they hit the target.

These were never used and they are not loaded.

They were found in a warehouse and donated to us.
